• The European Court of Justice (CJEU) ruled in a landmark case that if one EU member state acknowledges a same-sex couple’s parental relationship with a child, then every country in the EU should do the same in order to protect the child's right to free movement. Backstory: The case was brought to CJEU after authorities in Bulgaria refused to give a birth certificate to the a couple’s new-born daughter on the basis that “a child cannot have two mothers.”
